Yoga and Naturopathy for Nervous Weakness (Neurasthenia)

Neurasthenia or nervous weakness is weakening of the nerve cells causing the whole nervous system to lose its tone and become exhausted. It is common among the upper class people and with professionals working in sedentary occupations. Overwork, mental exertion, sedentary lifestyle and sexual excesses are the main causes. Use of tobacco, neurotic temperament, chronic diseases, wrong thinking, wrong style of living and faulty diet includes other factors. Common symptoms includes, general nervousness; coldness of hands and feet; weakness of mental faculties, digestive disturbances, sleeplessness; muscular weakness, fear and restlessness.

Treatment

Yoga, physical and breathing exercises and fresh air are of vital importance.

Yogic Kriya: Practice Neti &  Tratak daily and do Kunjal once in a week.

Asana: Uttanpadasana, Sarvangasana, Halasana, Matsyasana, Pawanmuktasana, Chakrasana, Paschimotanasana, Ardhamatsyasana, Savasana etc.

Pranayama: Om Chanting, Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom, Nadi Sodhan, Bhramari etc.

Mudra: Gyana Mudra

Meditation: Practice it daily.

Diet Therapy:

Drink water immediately after getting up.

Soak black raisins overnight and eat it and drink the water.

Adopt fruit diet for 5 days, followed by a fruit and milk diet for 10 days. Begin with 1 liter of milk a day and increase by 250 milliliters daily till you have reached up to 2 liters. Finally embark upon a well-balanced diet comprising of vegetable oil, milk and honey. Take carrot, cucumber juice, coconut water, juice of doob, sprouted chana, moong, peanut, seasonal fruits and raw salad etc.

Avoid smoking, tea, coffee, sweet, fast food, and any other stimulating foods.

Drink lots of water. Drink water from green bottle processed in sun rays.

Naturopathy:

Maintain personal hygiene, sleep in a well-ventilated room, get sufficient rest and relax mentally and physically.

Increase nerves energy and vitality with dry friction and sponge in the morning. Neutral immersion bath for 1 hour before retiring is also advised. Epsom salt bath once or twice a week is beneficial. Dissolve 1 kilogram of Epsom salt in a bath tub of warm water and remain immersed for 10 to 20 minutes. Avoid using soap during the bath.

Take mud pack on abdomen, enema, hip bath, stiz bath, hot and cold fomentation of spine etc.
