Yoga and Naturopathy for Oedema (Dropsy or Fluid Retention)

Edema, also spelled oedema or oedema, is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the interstitium, located beneath the skin and in the cavities of the body, which can cause severe pain. Clinically, edema manifests as swelling. It is swelling due to an infiltration of fluid into the tissues. If it occurs in one specific area, it can cause the nearby skin to become taut and shiny, and the muscles become achy.


Yogic Kriya: Kunjal with luke warm water without salt.

Asana: Pawan Muktasana, Mandukasana, Viparit Karani, Uttanapadasana, Sarvangasana, Leg Rotation, Cycling etc.

Pranayama: Kapalbhati, Agnisar, Bahiya, Anulom Vilom etc.

Mudra: Varun Mudra

Meditation: Meditate daily. It will help you to control the symptoms of water retention in whatever may be the reason.

Diet Therapy:

Do fasting on lukewarm water then juice and light foods i.e. orange, sweet lemon, pineapple, carrot, white pumpkin, pomegranate,  coconut water, green vegetables soup etc. for few days. In the morning chew Garlic and take bitter gourd (karela) juice. Avoid fried food, maida made food, ready-made food, fast food and reduce salt intake.


Take mud pack on abdomen and enema. Drink water processed with green bottle in sun rays. Have sun bath daily.
