Yoga and Naturopathy for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a long-lasting autoimmune disease
characterized by patches of abnormal skin. These skin
patches are typically red, itchy, and scaly. Psoriasis
varies in severity from small, localized patches to
complete body coverage. Injury to the skin can trigger
psoriatic skin changes at that spot.
There are five main types of psoriasis:
1. Plaque psoriasis (psoriasis vulgaris): Makes
up about 90 percent of cases. It typically presents
as red patches with white scales on top. Areas of
the body most commonly affected are the back
of the forearms, shins, navel area, and scalp.

2. Guttate psoriasis has drop-shaped lesions.
3. Pustular psoriasis presents as small noninfectious
pus-filled blisters.
4. Inverse psoriasis forms red patches in skin folds.
5. Erythrodermic psoriasis occurs when the rash
becomes very widespread, and can develop from
any of the other types. Fingernails and toenails
are affected in most people with psoriasis at
some point in time. This may include pits in the
nails or changes in nail colour.
While the exact cause of psoriasis isn’t fully
understood, scientists believe psoriasis is the result
of several factors, including the immune system and
environment. Overactive immune system creates
inflammation inside the body, which is a cause of the
symptoms you see on the skin.
Symptoms starts with red bumps on the skin, plaque
psoriasis (pictured) develops into red patches with a
silvery, scaly coating — these raised patches are called
plaques. Symptoms often worsen during winter and
with certain medications, such as beta blockers or
NSAIDs. Infections and psychological stress can also
play a role. Plaques usually show up on elbows, knees,
and the lower back, and they can last for months or
even years without treatment.

TREATMENT
Yogic Kriya: Kunjal, Shankha Prakshalan, Enema,
Agnisar
Asana: Pawanmuktasana, Paschimotanasan,
Chakrasana, Sarvangasana, Matsyasana, Sirshasana,
Savasana, Surya Namaskar, Halasana, Yogmudrasana,
Ardhmatsyasana, Sashankasana etc.
Pranayama: Bhastrika, Kapalbhati, Agnisar Bahiya,
Anulom Vilom, Shitali, Shitkari, Bahiya, Anulom Vilom,
Nadi Sodhan
Bandha & Mudra: Uddiyan Bandh, Mul Bandha, Apan
Mudra Prana Mudra, Viparit Karani
Meditation: Meditation is overall good for skin.
Diet Therapy:
Change in lifestyle is must to cure this disease. Fasting
is the best thing for the patient with skin diseases.
Do fasting on liquid (carrot juice, cabbage, beetroot,
cucumber, white pumpkin, lauki juice, grapes juice,
amla, carrot water etc.) for few days that should be
followed by at least 10-15 days of fruit & raw food
fasting for the detoxification of the body. After that,
start taking milk and fruit/ juice in sufficient quantity
every day. Have lots of water. Drink 3 liters of water
in winters and upto 4 liters of water in summer. Treat,

cure and prevent constipation. Take Triphala power
with lukewarm water before going to bed every day.
Take soup made of Cabbage twice daily. Vitamin C
is very good for this problem. Take lemon tea or hot
lemon without sugar 4-5 times a day.
Take 5-10 leaves of margosa leaves (Neem) everyday
in the morning.
Avoid salt, fried food, sugar (whether refined or
unrefined, brown or white, liquid or powdered, sugar
is an insidious pro-inflammatory food), fast food,
ready-made food, alcohol, smoking, tea, coffee, egg,
maida, Dairy, spicy food, Gluten (Gluten is a protein
found in wheat and other grains) and Alcohol.
Naturopathy:
Take hot foot bath everyday in the evening. Take mud
pack, hot & cold fomentation on abdomen followed
by enema, oil massage, steam bath, hip bath and
morning walk. Take mud pack on abdomen, enema
with margosa leaves water, hip bath and steam bath.
Wash the affected part with lukewarm salty water and
apply olive oil or coconut oil daily. You can add mild
soap or oil or finely ground oatmeal or Epsom salt or
Dead Sea salt to your bath to help soothe itchy spots
and remove dry skin. Take 15 minutes to soak in the
warm water. Moisturize immediately after your bath
for double benefits.

Wash cabbage leaf or banana leaf and make it slightly
hot, apply on affected part and tie with cotton cloth. It
can be done twice a day.
Replace the animal milk by soya milk, sesame milk.
Drink water processed in green bottle with sun rays.
Lemon juice and Oil processed in green bottle with
sun rays can be applied on skin.
