Yoga and Naturopathy for Thalassemia

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder. People with
Thalassemia disease are not able to make enough
haemoglobin. Hemoglobin is found in red blood cells
that carries oxygen to all parts of the body. Lack of
hemoglobin in the red blood cells causes oxygen
deficiency in the body. As a result organs become
starved for oxygen and are unable to function properly.
There are two primary types of Thalassemia disease:
1. Alpha Thalassemia disease
2. Beta Thalassemia disease.
Beta Thalassemia Major is a serious illness. Symptoms
appear in the first two years of life and include paleness
of the skin, poor appetite, irritability and failure to grow.
Alpha Thalassemia Major is a very serious disease in
which severe anemia begins even before birth. Pregnant
women carrying affected fetuses are themselves at
risk for serious pregnancy and delivery complications.

Durability of RBC of thalassemia patient is 20-25 days
instead of 120 days in healthy person. Repeated and
safe blood transmission is required in every 2-4 weeks.
Bone transmission also is done but it is very expensive
and success rate is also very low. Getting matched
donor also is not easy task.
Diet Therapy:
Iron assimilation in the body is not proper in
thalassemic patient. So, excess iron is removed from
the body. Body needs lots of fruit (viz. Orange, grapes,
guava, pineapple, amls, lemon etc) intake to help this.
Ripe banyan fruit has blood building properties so
take it daily. GOMUTRA is useful. Wheat grass juice is
great thing for these patients and should be consumed
regularly. Water should be prepared by processing in
yellow color bottle with sun rays.
Yogasana: Surya Namaskar, Dhanurasana, chakrasana,
viparit karani, halasan, matsyasan, markatasana,
yogmudrasana, ardhmatsyendrasana etc.
Naturopathy:
Take mud pack on abdomen and enema. Go for morning
walk (barefoot on green grass is even better but not
in too cold or winter) and take sun bath. Clapping is
good. Laugh a lot and meditate daily.
